Iran carried out missile and drone strikes on Israel and U.S. assets across the Middle East on Wednesday, in retaliation for the killing of senior security official Ali Larijani. Iranian authorities confirmed that Larijani, head of the Supreme National Security Council, was killed in Israeli airstrikes along with his son and close aides.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said its forces targeted more than 100 military and security sites in Israel. Explosions were reported in and around Tel Aviv, where emergency services confirmed casualties following missile strikes.
U.S. facilities in the region were also targeted. Drones were launched toward the U.S. embassy in Baghdad, triggering sirens and an explosion near the compound. A projectile was also reported near a military site in the United Arab Emirates, though no injuries were reported.
The attacks mark a further escalation in the conflict, which has been intensifying since late February following U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian targets.
Analysts warn that the situation could worsen, with the possibility of wider regional involvement if hostilities continue.
The conflict has also begun to affect key infrastructure and global energy routes. The Strait of Hormuz, a major oil transit route, remains disrupted, contributing to rising energy prices.
Meanwhile, regional leaders are expected to hold talks in Saudi Arabia to discuss the situation, though no immediate signs of de-escalation have emerged.
